Dowra 2010

Postby SASLAMS » Mon Jun 07, 2010 8:43 am

I received a message from a trustworthy source that the Dowra house is full. But for all those who have any questions regarding Tarim or what to pack, what to do, who to see-please feel free to ask

As far is clothing goes-most would advise you to pack light. Most students in the Dar where the same outfit for 3 days or so. Obviously you would need less izaars then shirts. Just make sure that you have one white outfit for jumuah. If it were me. I would go with 3 lungis, 5 shits & then the Friday outfit. Don’t forget some of those white pants to wear under the lungi. It has been advised by habib Umar. You could were long shorts or something in its place though. You would need good sweat absorbent vests/t shirts too- so cotton is a must.

There will be internet insha Allah- the dowra house usually runs off a wireless system & there are two internet cafes in the souk(not recommended) & then there is one right opposite the Dar that the students use.

As far as money goes-its your choice. There is an ATM that you could use if your card is visa or maestro. Here you could get $ or YR. don’t worry it is safe to use it.

Start practicing Sabr now, practice sitting for a long period of time. You will be reading, writing & eating of the floor so get use to it if you not already. I don’t think there is a way of getting use to the heat, you will figure that out for yourself. Try to read quraan everyday between Maghrib & Isha & do some form of I’badah for about 30 min before fajr & then after up to Ishraaq. & about 10 min before & after each salah. This would help so that you don’t get drained with all the nawaafil over there.

Most of all don’t waste your time in the dowra house will there are adhkaar or lessons taking place. Don’t waste too much time with the internet either.

Mash'Allah!

just wanted to say that alhamdulilah brother SASLAMS is able to share very useful information here for those who are intending to go to Tarim. I am so proud of him & his family...subhanAllah they had such an incredibly strong intention to go to Tarim and by Allah's Grace they were able to do so and from the sound of it they benefited immensely.

shukran for helping others who are embarking on this journey.

you could bring along running shoes. the westerners usualy play basketball after the maulids on thursday night. it is good to bring with a pair of good walking shoes that are open if possible. you will do alot of walking & sneekers just wouldnt do it in the heat.

many arab dowra students play socer in the dar yard but they do it before Dhuhr, & trust me its too hot. do all exercise at night because before & after fajr you should be busy with some form of lessons or i'badah

Asalamu alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

I pray this reaches all of you in the best of health and Imaan. I was wondering if they are any sisters from London who are going to the Dowra this year? I have some stuff that my Quran teacher asked me to buy for her (she lives in Tarim) and she was my teacher last year at the Dowra. So if any sisters are going and can do this favour for me then please let me know. May Allah reward you in abundance.

Brother SASLAMS- do you know if the 2 year arabic program started yet in darul zahra?

Jazakallahu kheiran
