wslm wr wb,

I hear the situation is much better out there now, especially with regards to those who want to study Arabic at Abu Nur. It's said to be regulated by the government.

Damascus is full of opportunity.

God bless.

As salamu alaikum brother :)

It happend very quickly I spoke to the Habib and he gave me some advices and basically next day I got my exit visa and I went to the suq and bought a ticket from internet to sweden and I bought a ticket to sanaa for the same day because I wanted to go to sanaa with 2 other brothers... SO when I finally came back to the dar I just had time to finish packing and go, It was alot of people that I wanted to say goodbye to that I didn't see. You and my Quran teacher and many more... give my salams to him (hafidi) and the other brothers, Insha Allah we see each other again... thx for everything and forgive me for everything..

Your brother

Are places such as Ma'had Tahdhib wa al-Ta'lim accepting students ?

Does any know of any Ma'hads in Aleppo that teach Shafi'i Fiqh ? Is the cost of living cheap in Aleppo ?

Assalaamu alaikum

saslams how is Yemen?

Great work with the nursery!!! How is your arabic now? I hope that Allah continues to bless you and your family. My wife and kids are moving back to Europe this summer that means I am free to travel the Middle east. Alhamdullilah.. Finances were holding me up. It was harder this time around to leave the USA with a family. But we decided for my wife to go back with her family and sell our house in the US and get an apartment back in her country.

So now I am scouting the best university to get BA in Islamic studies.

As Salamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah Sidi Abu Hanifah,

I was studying at Ribat Tarim, but returned back home in Oct.09. It has a really good Shafi'i Fiqh program.

Can you tell me, what is the current situation at Ma'had Tahdhib ? are they accepting students ? is it hard to get accepted into ? what are their Shurut al-Qubul exactly ?

Syria is currently accepting foreign students again.

tadheeb wa ta'leem does require fluency in arabic. The do have a arabic class for beginners but it is very week.

There are no age requirements that I am aware of. They teach shafi fiqh also. The thinkgs is the school is very small and located in the middle of souk hamdiyah.

I heard the Ribat was excellent. tadheeb's program is four years. Maybe finishing at the ribat would be best?

As Salamu alaikum,

I personally would recommend Ribat for someone who wishes to focus on Shafi'i Fiqh. I chose Ribat over Dar al-Mustafa due to their particular strength when it comes to studies. One can complete their syllabus in 6 years if starting at the lowest level. They do the following;
Risalat al-Jamia'ah
Safinat al-Naja
Mukhtasar al-Saghir and then al-Kabir
Abu Shuj'a
Sharh ibn Qasim
Zubad
'Umdat al-Salik
Minhaj al-Talibin
And the final work is Shiekh al-Islam's Fath al-Wahhab

You can even join between Dar al-Mustafa and Ribat, or just attend the Ribat class after Maghrib (that was my personal favorite, over 50 Halaqahs teaching Shafi'i Fiqh), locals and students attend these lessons.

Is Ma'had Tahdhib difficult to get admission into ? do they have many pre-requisites ?

The only prerequisite was Arabic. Their preparatory Arabic class is weak..People should learn Arabic before joining.

The benefit is that you are tested on what you learn halaqahs are excellent but I feel some classroom studies do compliment well because you are forced to prepare for exams also,

Question about Ribat. Are you placed according to what you studied previously? Are ijazahs given out to students who complete the course successfully?

As Salamu alaikum,

A certificate/Ijazah is given if one finishes the six years there, otherwise one will receive a paper listing the texts completed.

One is tested in the Ribat office after being accepted and then placed in the suitable class. They will probably look at what you've studied and place you wherever is suitable. There are non-stop classes there pretty much, one can get Abu Ishaq al-Shirazi's al-Tanbih before Dhuhr or Minhaj at other times. It is quite easy to find teachers there to sit one on one with.

So if I decide to go to Ma'had Tadhib, what is the protocal exactly ?
-When do classes begin, are they really strict on their registration date ? by that I mean no exceptions ?
-I know Arabic Insha Allah, but if they deem it weak will they place me in their language program ?
-Sorry to ask this so many times but, is that particular institute accepting students or just syrian schools in general ?
-Are there fees ?

Oh I enjoyed it. look I used the arabic program just to get to Tarim to be part of Tarim. the arabic program didnt work out for me so I did it privately. I speak enough arabic to get by & understand when my teachers explain, so then it must be ok.
I just did two books in fiqh. risalah & safinah
one book in tajweed & reading towards ijazah
& then I did one third of bidayah & hope to complete when I return insha Allah.

but my main aim was purification

I have to be honest I am not sure of the 2010 protocol. I was there years ago. They did have a website up until last year but no longer. I do know that Syrian schools are accepting foreigner s again. And that the Mudeer would bring you into his office in order to test your arabic. The school year did start after the summer. I would suggest a visit there if possible. I will try to locate someone still there and get back to you with further details.

Do you remember what their Fiqh syllabus is and what the fees are like ?
Please keep me updated if you have any new info regarding their admissions process.
