Any shuyukh in Jeddah who will teach women?

Postby SisterSeeksIlm » Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:19 pm

As salaamu alaikum

Im finding it a bit discouraging that a search for "women" and "study islam" and "jeddah" reveals nothing in the way of colleges or institutes for such a thing. What have we come to? And I find similarly discouraging results in other places, where it is men-only colleges. :(

If there are no institutions as such that teach traditional Islam to women in Jeddah, does anyone at least know of a teacher who will teach women? Note: By teach, I dont mean I sit in another room and watch him on a TV screen and hope for a chance to ask him a question face to face one day....

Assalam alaikum,

I know that in Jeddah there's a Dar al Zahra which teaches the traditional Islamic sciences to women. One can also find several female teachers willing to give private lessons in seerah, fiqh, suluk, etc.

If by "traditional Islam" you mean ahl as-sunnah (the ash`ari, sufi) understanding, there are not likely to be many institutes there, though if you can enroll at the dar az-zahra that would be brilliant! Moreover, you are unlikely to get any results if you are searching in English rather than Arabic.
