New Village in Mauritania to study at; awaiting all the deta

Postby ummyusuf » Fri Aug 10, 2007 5:36 pm

As Salaamu alaykum:
I've just learnt that there is a village about 20 minutes outside of Nouakchott that is affiliated with Sh. Hajj Fahfu and Sh. Saalik...InshaAllhah my son and I will be leaving in few months and will visit the area to see about the studying and living conditions...My son was told by Rami ( one of the students of Sh. Hajj Fahfu & affiliate/teacher at Zaytuna) that the village has a very prominent Sheikh who teaches many of the sciences and you can benefit from being there...also the location is good for Westerners because it's only 20 minutes away from the city...More details coming soon, inshaAllah

Sincerely, Karimah Rashid

Re: New Village in Mauritania to study at; awaiting all the deta

Salaam,

I am a 22 year old Muslim female living in London. I have been looking into seeking Allaah Ta Ala knowlege for sometime now. I decided that I would rather go abroad as opposed to studying here in London (due to less distraction and from what 've heard of the peace and tranquil feeling people have felt abroad). I have conatcted a few places like a madrassa in Andalucia Spain and I also contacted the Zaytuna Institute (to name a couple) but none have gotten back to me. Alhamdulilaah I have not given up and due to more research I have come across many helpful sites like this one, whereby I have been able to contact people who have contacts in this area or active students abroad themselves.
I am interested in studying in the Dar az Zahra in Yemen or in Mauritania. I know (from reading the threads) that the life there is very different to what we get used to in the West but InshaAllaah I am very willing to try and I believe I have the right intentions, Allaah knows best.
I would like some help or direction into finding out more information on this, for example, how to apply, travel, if I could get in contact with someone actually out there. Also I know the basics of Arabic but am unable to speak or understand at the moment.
Please help me

JazakAllah Khair

Assalam-u-alykum wr wb,

I once compiled a short list of institutions where sisters could pursue knowledge of Deen. The list is in no way exhaustive but In Sha Allah you may benefit from it. Here is the link:
http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dcvjvs8j_26fg9thc

Of particular interest to you will be the info on Dar az-Zahra which is basically info from the old version of this forum gathered in one place.

Also, as general advice, you may consider:

a) taking courses @ SunniPath (http://www.sunnipath.com)(they have both beginner and intermediate level courses and their Arabic curriculum is excellent)
b) studying basic fiqh, aqeeda etc. with local Shuyukh

before you set-out for a full-time institute. This will help you save up money to cover expenses etc. This is the advice I got from some Shuyukh about seeking sacred knowledge.

Of course if you're all set to leave as we speak then the above doesn't apply to you.

For Arabic:

1) You may also consider the Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan.

Some info is available at Danya Shakfeh's blog posting on Qasid Institute and living in Amman: http://salika.wordpress.com/2006/08/01/ ... harabsheh/

2) If you don't wish to travel yet you may consider SunniPath's arabic courses:

Miftah curriculum: http://www.sunnipath.com/Academy/Online ... iftah.aspx

Sibawayh:
http://www.sunnipath.com/Academy/Online ... iftah.aspx

3) Also, I learned about the Qalam wa Lawh academy(through this forum) in Rabat, Morocco(http://www.qalam.ma) that teaches Classical arabic and Modern Standard Arabic through language immersion, which is I hear is the best way to become bilingual or multilingual.

I haven't studied at this institute but I find it cheaper than Qasid since the Jordanian Dinar is expensive, plus it seems to me that Qalam wa lawh specializes in developing spoken fluency via language immersion. Their website has info on living costs etc.

4) Also there is a sister on this forum who said she studied in the ALIF insitute in Fez, Morocco. You may contact her to find out her about her learning experience. Her user id is: Safiyah

Alhamdulillah, there are a lot of people on this forum and I am the least knowledgeable of them. In Sha Allah they will share their advice and will definitely help you.

As salaam alaykum,
Can you kindly feed us with the name of the new village please? I think that is better when we get aware of that.

There is also a village called Nabbaghiyya where you can find a strong mahdhara controlled by a good sufi Shaykh by name Shaykh Bah. It is also a good ameniable place for all kind of people. Its about 50km or more from Noackchott.

Bismillah

Marhaban,

I think this is the school you are talking about http://mahdara.com. Sh. Saleck founded the school and his brother is among the teachers there now. It is close to the city, (not the capital) but much easier to get to than Tuwemerat (the city of Sh. Murabit al Hajj).

A side-note to the sister who wanted to go to Mauritania; I asked Shaykh Saleck about a woman going to Mauritania to study and he said it would be better for her to go somewhere else, like learn Arabic in Egypt first. My roommate learned Arabic in Cairo.
